Innovative Food Packaging to watch Out for

Food packaging is very important because you have to have good packaging—or else there is a problem. But what types of innovations are being cooked up? What should you be watching out for if you’re a food packaging supplier, or someone who works in this industry?

You’re about to find out, because here, we’ll go over the top food packaging to watch out for, and what you should be using today.

Active and smart Packaging

Smart and active packaging is probably going to be the first thing you look at. In the world of food, it is critical to have this.

If you aren’t sure what this is, this is active packaging that tells you what you need to know about the current state of the product. For instance, there are freshness indicators that will tell you just how fresh your item is.

There is also self-heating and self-cooling packaging, which keeps the item hot or cold, respectively, until it gets to the customer.   This is something a lot of food providers are using and leaves them with happy customers.

There is also intelligent packaging, or smart packaging. These are different sensors and QR codes that aren’t necessarily telling you the current state, but will lead you to a site , such as the social media platform, information about the item, and even different nutrition facts. These all work together and culminate into better food packaging for all.

This is one of the most emergent trends, and these days we are seeing more providers offering this.

Going sustainable

The second most important is offering packaging that lets you go green, providing you with a fresh experience that doesn’t harm the environment.

Plastic waste is a huge no-no these days with more companies frowning upon people who use this.   Many times, they don’t realize just how much they use until one sits down, seeing the current state of their packaging.

That’s where sustainable food packaging comes in. they’re eco-friendly materials, such as corrugated and paperboard products, and also practices, such as using less void fill and better items that are biodegradable and compostable.

Smart packaging also plays a part in this, as there are many people who will be able to reduce the food waste that they have through smart packaging decisions.   For instance, sensors and indicators will tell you if the packaging is biodegradable, or wasteful, allowing you to have more control over your packaging and how it ends up.

With so many different and emerging trends, it’s important to look at them.

What’s next?

The future of packaging, especially for food, is something that a lot of people should be aware of.

Sure there is the vacuum sealing technology in order to preserve freshness, but there are also other sensors and indicators, which of course play a part in the packaging of food.

We will be seeing a lot smarter packaging being used, as it is an innovative solution. Many are open to it, because it gives them an indicator of the state of their packaging that they have, and the overall freshness that’s there.

The industry is growing, and with more of it becoming smarter and innovative with different ways to help reduce waste, most people are  interested in seeing companies use this.

As a food packaging provider, it’s up to you to determine the best course of action for your packaging. If you’re able to afford these marked changes to your packaging, then do that, and definitely use this time to create the ultimate in your packaging spheres.
